News from the Travis County District Clerk’s Office:
The Travis County District Clerk’s office strongly encourages all attorneys to file a Case Information Sheet for their new cases (click here for the Case Information Sheet). This new procedure has been implemented for all Civil, Criminal, and Family Law Cases.
In Section 1, you do not need to repeat this information if you filed your document electronically.
In Section 2, you may either choose the type of case or you may use one of the three-letter codes in the attached. If you choose a one of these codes, please note the code in “Other.” (Click here for a list of codes).
There are 32 process servers for Travis District Court (not including Constables) that can now receive citations/petitions for service electronically. In the “comments to the clerk” field, just request that a particular process server be e-mailed the documents. When that e-mail is sent, the electronic filer is copied. This feature can also be used for process servers in other counties (e.g., petition is filed in Travis, but CT Corporation in Dallas needs to be served by a process server in Dallas). I-Docket.com™ is a statewide information system for all court dockets. Travis District Court expects to have the docket sheets for all active cases (September 2004 to the present) online by November 2011. Thereafter within the next several months (if all goes according to plan), they hope to have the actual pleadings available to the user to download.
News from the Southern District of Texas:
After September 30, 2010, attorneys registered for electronic filing will no longer receive copies of Court notices, orders and judgments from the District Court for the Southern District of Texas by facsimile or first-class mail. All attorneys admitted to the bar of this Court, as well as those admitted pro hac vice, are required to register for electronic filing. Registration constitutes consent to electronic service of all documents as provided in the Court's Administrative Procedures for Electronic Filing in Civil and Criminal Cases and in accordance with Fed. R. Civ. P. 5(b)(2)(E) and Fed. R. Crim. P. 49. Further information on this transition is available at: http://www.txs.uscourts.gov/news/noticingchange.pdf
