JANA THOMPSON
of LBJ High School,
Jana is Austin LSA, Inc.'s Scholarship Recipient
Jana received a $500 scholarship from Austin LSA and a $1500 scholarship from Texas ALP
Jana Thompson, a student at Lyndon Baines Johnson High School, has been chosen to receive Austin LSA's 2006-2007 $500 Scholarship as well as a $1500 scholarship from the Texas Association of Legal Professionals. Jana is very interested in government and politics, especially the judicial branch of government, and has decided to extend her knowledge of government and politics by pursuing a legal career. Ranked third in her class of 171, Jana is planning to attend The University of Texas at Austin. Her other interests include reading, writing poetry, and, of course, politics and current events!
Jana's honors and awards consist of the High Achiever's List of College Board Student Search Service (2006), National Society of High School Scholars (2005), Who's Who Among American High School Students (2005-2006), Renaissance Honor Student (2003-2006), Outstanding Science Student (2003-2004), and Honor Roll (2003-present), and others. She is in the LBJ High School Marching Band and Wind Ensemble. Her many community and volunteer services consist of being a TAKS Tutor at LBJ, making Easter baskets for Hurricane Katrina victims, volunteering at St. Joseph's Diner (Layayette, LA) and participating in the choir of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.
In her scholarship transmittal letter to Austin LSA, Jana stated that she wanted "the experience of being able to participate in our nation's judicial system firsthand" and "to be part of the process of government and to be part of our history." She also wanted to "take part in the governmental proceedings" that she loved "to watch on Law and Order and learned so much about in school." Jana is an intelligent and delightful young woman and we are very proud to have her as our scholarship recipient.
